SYMPTOMS:

When you connect to Project Server 2003 with Project Professional you see the following error:

Connection Failed:

SQLState: 01000
SQL Server Error 1326
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionOpen (CreateFile())
Connection Failed:
SQLState 08001
SQL Server Error: 1326
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver] Client unable to establish connection

When you click OK a SQL login dialog box is displayed.

CAUSE

This error can occur if the version of MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) on the client is different than the version of MDAC on the Project Server.

RESOLUTION

Download the Component Checker tool which will allow you to determine which version of MDAC components you have installed on your client and on your Project Server.

After you have verified that the version of MDAC on Client and Server are not the same, ensure that the client and server have the same version of MDAC installed by downloading the correct MDAC version and updating the MDAC components on either the client or the server.
